Lawn Aeration and Overseeding in Shoreline & Lake Forest Park

Lawn Aeration and Overseeding in Shoreline & Lake Forest Park

After more than 20 years working on lawns around North Seattle and South Snohomish County, Shoreline and Lake Forest Park are areas where I see many of the same problems year after year: compacted soil, thinning grass, moss and lawns that struggle to recover after summer.

Core aeration is one of the simplest ways to help. Removing small plugs from the lawn creates openings in compacted soil and improves movement of air, water and nutrients into the root zone. It also creates a better environment for overseeding because some of the seed reaches openings in the soil instead of sitting entirely on top of existing turf.

Why fall and spring work well here

Our cool-season grasses grow best when temperatures are moderate and moisture is available. That is why I normally recommend aeration, overseeding and starter fertilizer in spring and fall. If the budget allows, doing it twice per year is ideal. At minimum, I recommend doing it annually. Aeration itself is beneficial twice per year in our climate.

If a lawn is thin or patchy but does not need thatching, our Lawn Revival combines core aeration, overseeding and starter fertilizer. Thatching is much more disruptive and I only recommend it when the lawn actually needs it.
