Lawn Aeration and Thatching in Ballard, Magnolia & Northwest Seattle
Ballard, Magnolia and Northwest Seattle have plenty of older established lawns. Shade, mature trees, compacted soil and our long wet season can all contribute to thinning grass and moss, but moss by itself does not automatically mean a lawn should be thatched.
Thatching is fairly aggressive work. If the lawn is mostly healthy and only has a small amount of moss, I would rather aerate, overseed and fertilize than unnecessarily tear into the existing turf. When moss or thatch is heavy, however, physical removal can be an important first step.
What happens after heavy moss is removed?
Moss occupies space. If a lawn has a heavy infestation and that material is removed, bare areas are often left behind. That is why I commonly recommend The Works for a genuinely moss-heavy lawn: thatching removes the unwanted material, then aeration, overseeding and starter fertilizer help begin rebuilding the turf.
For a lawn that is simply thin or patchy without a serious thatch problem, our Lawn Revival is generally the less disruptive choice.
